TABLOID! the Novel
Welcome to TABLOID! — a sprawling satirical novel that features George Clooney, Julia Roberts, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Jennifer Aniston, Tom Cruise, and Britney Spears — the Gang of 7. They've been brought together by the enigmatic Mr. Smith to take revenge on the tabloid industry by launching a rogue publication of your own: The Truth. What unfolds is a wild, zany, and sharply comedic adventure — part espionage, part parody, and all heart.
The story is inspired by the absurdity of modern celebrity culture and the ruthless nature of the media machine — a stark reminder of the thin line between public image and private truth.
Its spirit is best summed up by the opening quote from François de La Rochefoucauld, “Satire is at once the most agreeable and most dangerous of mental qualities. It always pleases when it is refined, but we always fear those who use it too much; yet satire should be allowed when unmixed with spite, and when the person satirized can join in the satire.”
While TABLOID! embraces its silliness, it also holds something deeper. Its true power lies in this: when someone of the stature of these celebrities can laugh at themselves — as they all do so well — it gives the rest of us permission to laugh at ourselves. That, I believe, is a much-needed antidote in today’s world.
